Stan Helsing (2009)
Plot: In this horror spoof, Stan Helsing and his friends find themselves up against “The Monsters” (Freddy Krueger, Pinhead, Michael Myers, Leatherface, Chucky, and Jason Voorhees) as they attempt to deliver some rental DVDs on the way to a Halloween party.
My Review: Running a Friday The 13th site I HAD to rent this film and see what they had Jason do. Well, to be honest, he doesn’t have a huge part (none of the monsters do), but interestingly enough, “Mason” as he’s called in the film is played by Ken Kirzinger who played Jason in Freddy Vs. Jason as well as playing a cook in Friday The 13th part 8, and being stunt coordinator on that same film. But enough about Friday the 13th…
Most of these spoof movies have one main plot that copies one major horror movie. This one doesn’t really. In fact, it doesn’t seem to have much of a main plot at all, at least not one that is important at all.
Stan Helsing wasn’t a horrible movie for the first 45 minutes, but it wasn’t good. A movie like this is supposed to be funny, and it really wasn’t. Most of the jokes are pointless (like almost every other spoof film) but here, most of the time the joke doesn’t even make sense, or belong in the scene. You find yourself wondering if you’re stupid and don’t get it. No, its just a bad joke.
On the other hand, there were a few ‘cute’ jokes that I did crack a smile for, and I wasn’t bored for at least the first 45-55 minutes of the film. But once I reached that point I just wanted the movie to be over with. Thankfully a funny karaoke scene ‘revived’ my boredom so I could last till the end.
Gore: None, now that I think about it I don’t think anyone even dies in the film.
Sexual Content: There are beautiful people all over the movie. The two main girls in the film flaunt what they have, but don’t get excited, they don’t show anything other then their cleavage. There is one set of breasts, blink and you’ll miss it.
Acting: The acting really wasn’t that horrible for the roles. They were supposed to be played a little over the top. I really enjoyed Diora Baird as Nadine. You’ll also notice a cameo by Leslie Nielsen, he plays a waitress. Yes, a waitress.
Overall: Its not great, but if you are a BIG fan of Jason, Freddy, Chucky, Leatherface, or Pinhead, you should give it at least one viewing.
