Jennifer’s Body (2009)

Plot: After a run in with a satanic emo band, hot cheerleader Jennifer (Megan Fox) is transformed into a demon with an insatiable appetite for high school boys. Now, it’s up to Jennifer’s best friend, Needy (Amanda Seyfried), to protect the guys from the bloodthirsty man-eater. This co-stars Adam Brody as the devil-worshipping band’s lead singer.

My Review: I had been wanting to see this movie for awhile, and ended up getting an early screener to review. So I watched the extended edition which ran about an hour and 40 minutes. Which was way too long for this movie. I can honestly say, I think Diablo Cody should quit writing. I thought Juno was terrible, and this film was worse.

The concept isn’t that horrible. Girl ends up possessed and starts killing and eating her classmates so she can survive…..and look pretty. But what followed was pretty bad.

The movie contains so much teen slang that I’ve never heard of before – and I admit, I watch teen shows! It baffled me as to what was being said from time to time. Every sentence or two there was a new word that didn’t seem to fit. It was overkill. Reminds me of scenes in comedy movies where parents try to fit in and say words like “dope” or “dude” and its hilarious. Only it wasn’t supposed to be funny here, it was supposed to be normal teen speak.

Lets not forget about the Needy, the (super hearing psychic?) best friend who seems to know and sometimes feel what her friend is doing. It doesn’t make sense. And its never explained. Especially the scene in the bar. They hold hands and some green mark appears on them then disappears. What was that?

This was a very unrealistic movie. Yes, I know it dealt with witchcraft and demons…I mean besides that. There were no normal reactions from any of the characters. Oh, a fire, okay lets stand around inside the burning building for awhile and not do anything. Then once outside lets not try to get help, lets hop in a van and take off. These girls were known at their school the next day for surviving the fire, yet they were never questioned by police? After seeing all those people die in the fire Needy just goes home? She doesn’t go to the police station, she doesn’t call anyone to tell them what happened. No, she calls Chip to tell him about her missing friend. Not about the horrible tragedy that she just witnessed. This unrealistic stuff happens in just about every scene, getting worse as it goes.

A few other scenes that were unrealalistic. The guy that goes into the woods with Jennifer. His best friend was just murdered, and he’s standing there crying, but he heads off into the woods to make out? In another scene Needy and Jennifer make out. What the heck? If Needy is so scared of Jennifer, WHY does she make out with her??? Just to entertain all the people who wanted to see Megan Fox make out with another girl, thats why!

Gore/FX: There is a lot of CGI going on, but it doesn’t look horrible – on the small screen at least. The blood and gore isn’t overly done, but what we do get IS good. It just doesn’t make the movie, or help it much.

Sexual Content: The trailer and some promo photos leaked on the net revealed that maybe Megan Fox would be going topless for this film. But don’t get to excited, she doesn’t. All you see is a little cleavage and some side boob that may have not even been hers. There is also a small and short sex scene between Needy and Chip. There is no nudity, but there is a scene of Megan Fox making out with another girl (which didn’t fit the movie or scene at all)

Acting: Megan Fox is gorgeous without a doubt, but the only roles I’ve seen her play so far have her being this sex object, and its getting old. I loved her in the Transformers films, but from time to time in this movie her acting ability severly lacked. From scene to see it was like she enjoyed the film, then didn’t enjoy the film. I’d love to see Megan Fox do a REAL horror movie one day. I totally forgot that Adam Brody was in it, so it was a shocker to see him as the lead singer of a band with black eyeliner. But he played the role well and was actually pretty sexy with the makeup. Overall the acting in the film wasn’t that bad at all.

Overall: I’ve seen a LOT worse, but there really wasn’t anything to this movie. It had potential, but failed. It entertained me in the beginning, but eventually I just wanted the movie to be over with, its one of those movies that keeps getting worse as you watch. If you like Megan Fox you might get a couple kicks out of it, otherwise I’d pass.
