Christmas Evil (1980)

Plot: The winter weather isn’t the only thing that’s frightful about this unconventional holiday offering about a toy maker whose obsession with Christmas spirals dangerously out of control. After enduring a traumatic childhood in which he learned there was no such thing as Santa Claus, Harry Stadling (Brandon Maggart) takes it upon himself to judge the “naughty” and the “nice.” But instead of spreading cheer, he opts for fear.

My Review: I was in the Christmas spirit and wanted to watch a bunch of Christmas Slasher films. Netflix didn’t have many to choose from, and most were on waits. But I got this one. The ratings were HORRIBLE for it. Just under 1 star…out of 5! But, a lot of GOOD horror movies have bad ratings there, so I went with it. What I got was one of the most uneventfully boring films I have seen in a long time! Oh, and its not a slasher film, I’m not even sure I’d call it a horror film.

The movie is SLOW! Nothing happens for 53 minutes. Seriously. The only thing we get is this character spying on families to see if they are naughty or nice..and he gets nutty with the shakes. Obviously he has some anger management issues. He basically takes it upon himself to become Santa since Christmas was ruined for him when he was a child. But the entire movie is filler, its boring. Some scenes were SO drawn out. Like when he gets stuck in the chimney. It was like a 10 minute scene of him climbing up the roof, getting stuck, and then breaking into the house.

It was so awful that its taken me about 15 days to sit down and actually review this. I really really didn’t want to.

Gore: Eventually the killing begins about an hour into the film, and it just seems bland for sitting around waiting. We don’t get to see any of it. However, they are creative. He takes “toys” from his company and kills people with them.

Sexual Content: As far as I recall there isn’t anything other then in the beginning when Santa appears to be sniffing his mothers crotch, cause nothing else was going on there.

Acting: It was pretty bad, but it was far far from the worst I’ve seen. It was tolerable.

Overall: It was a complete snoozefest and I honestly wouldn’t recommend it. Surprisingly this movie does have a following out there…I just can’t figure out why.
