Shark Night (2011) A.K.A. Shark Night 3D
Plot: A weekend of island beach-house debauchery turns into a hellish nightmare for a group of friends when one of them loses an arm in a vicious shark attack. Worse, the pals soon discover that the waters are infested with dozens of the toothy predators.
My Review: I went into this one not knowing anything about it. I recall at one point back when it was in the theater seeing trailers, but I didn’t remember anything about it. Before renting it tonight I asked Facebook friends if they’d seen it and what they thought about it. Most said it was pretty crappy. So, when I started it up and saw a bunch of actors I’d known from other TV shows or movies, I was pleasantly surprised, hoping that perhaps those friends were wrong. Sadly that wasn’t the case.
The movie starts off with two people out for a swim. One gets killed by a shark. Then we meet up with a few different college students who all head off to a lake house to party. Unknown to them of course is that there are a bunch of sharks in the salt water lake.
Shortly after arriving at the house one of them gets hurt while out on the water and loses an arm. Of course there is no cell phone reception and even though the house owner seems pretty rich they for some reason have no way to contact anyone out there. No house phone. So they try various methods of getting the guy to the dr. and of course it doesn’t work. Then these “hillbillies” come along and take some of them hostage. It all has to do with the sharks being in the water, but if I go on anymore I might as well tell you the whole plot.
Sometimes I watch movies and don’t have much to say about them, and so often I don’t bother writing a review. This is one of those times. All I can say is, the movie had potential. But the silly reasoning behind why the sharks were there combined with the bad CGI just made this movie “meh”. The first 30-45 minutes weren’t all that bad and it was semi entertaining. I just wish we could have been invested in these characters, gotten to actually know them and like them. Its just a shame that it ended up being as bad as it was.
Gore/FX: All of it was CGI. The sharks (except for maybe 1-3 shots) were all CGI and all looked like CRAP. Perhaps in theater 3D it looked good, but not in 2D at home. There is one shot where one of the “bad guys” talks about dunking someone in the water. During this scene they show a spooky looking CGI shark. Probably the best of them all. Reminded me of the cartoon shark “Bruce” from the kids movie Finding Nemo. He had that same toothy grin.
Sexual Content: None. Just chicks in bikini’s. Some side boob of two girls.
Acting: The first couple in the beginning of the movie were pretty bad, and I thought the rest of the movie was going to be pretty shitty too. But thankfully a bunch of people I recognized from other movies/tv shows showed up and made it a lot better to get through.
Overall: If you can get passed the awful CGI you might like this movie. Quite honestly I would have liked to gotten to know the characters a little more, maybe a different motive for why the sharks were there would have helped. But overall it was the terrible CGI I just couldn’t get passed.

You should have a catch phrase for this site: “I watch it so you don’t have to!” Lol. Well, at least for the crap anyways! I can’t stand any of these Jaws ripoffs and as a matter of fact I think the only one I ever watched and HUGELY regreted was Deep Blue Sea. This sounds worse than that! We greatly appreciate you enduring this crap and warning us before hand Kat!! You’re a trooper!
Haha, too funny Evil!
I only vagely remember Deep Blue Sea. I haven’t seen it in YEARS. But I recall it being better then most of the JAWS ripoffs. So if you didn’t like that one then you are making the right choice in not watching them!
