Dead Man Walking by Marty Shaw (Book Review)
Plot: Griffin knew watching an inmate being put to death wouldn’t be fun, but he never expected Callahan to return as something less than human. Now Griffin, along with a handful of officers and inmates, are trapped within the walls of a prison as a legion of the walking dead stalk them for food. The choice is simple – fight back or die.
My Review: Seeing how this is a short story, there isn’t all that much to write about in response to how I liked the story other then saying I loved it.
The story is about a prison where an execution goes wrong. The inmate dies, but comes back as a super strong zombie. He reeks havoc on the prison guards by killing them and turning them into zombies. Only thing is, a shot to the head doesn’t kill him so they have to figure out how to stop him and save themselves.
Some people had problems with the fact that the characters weren’t explored that much, but it’s a short story. It definitely could have been longer, but it all came together nicely. We didn’t HAVE to know anything about these characters to enjoy the story.
There was VERY little editing issues, I think I caught 2-3 spots where there wasn’t a period or something to that effect, but nothing major.
Overall: I really enjoyed it. I think there could definitely be a sequel, or it could be left just as is and still be fun. I could see this as an episode of Masters of Horror or Tales from the Crypt. Looking forward to other horror stories by this author, you can tell he’s got the passion for it.

Some time short stories are the best. Quick read and you get a feel for a new author. Good review!
