Many years later, a group of modern psychics looking for clues to explain a mutual friend’s mysterious suicide end up trapped in a creepy hotel stalked by Toulon’s miniature assassins.

My Review: I added the first two movies to my netflix streaming queue awhile back. But worried about watching them because I remember watching these as a teenager ALL the time on TV. I loved em as a kid. But I knew going into it as an adult I probably wouldn’t…and in the end I was right. I didn’t really care for this movie.

As the movie starts off, we are introduced to Andre Toulon as he works on a puppet. Meanwhile some of his other puppets are running around the building. Andre ends up killing himself as two people with guns are at his door…which come to think of it, I don‘t recall finding out who they were…I guess just people after his “magic“.

Then we are introduced to the main cast – a bunch of psychics. They’ve all ended up at this hotel where their friend has committed suicide. His wife states he requested not to be buried until after his friends arrived. Now, while I watched this I had a brutal cold, so maybe I missed something, but why is the hotel important. Could it be where Andre killed himself? I’m not sure. Moving on…

The viewer isn’t sure what these people have to do with one another until 35 minutes into the film, where one of them describes to their late friend’s wife what’s going on. Apparently it was discovered that the Egyptians could give powers to inanimate objects, and their practice was passed on to only a select few. One being Andre Toulon and as we know he chose to make his puppets come to life.

As the movie goes on, each character finds themselves somewhere alone (for the most part) and they have visions or psychic moments (which I got really sick of), and eventually they each bite the dust at the hands of the puppets.

As I stated above, I was fighting a brutal cold while watching and reviewing this, and yeah I found the movie slightly boring, but why are the puppets there? Were they brought back to life too, or resurrected by some means. I don’t recall the movie mentioning this.

What always amazes me about movies with killer dolls is that people don’t overpower them easily. At least in parts of this movie they just are taken by surprise fast, or in some other cases tied up.

Gore/FX: For the most part the puppet movements are claymation or live movements. Probably for the year it was released it was fine, but as far as 2010 its pretty cheesy. There was one scene which was kinda freaky, a guy wakes up in bed and lifts the covers to see severed heads lying there. But in the end the gore and FX are nothing special.

Sexual Content: A man about to rape a woman in an elevator (in a vision). We see a peak of her naked boob. One of the female psychics enjoying a vision of two woman having sex while nude in the bathtub. Another couple having sex, no nudity, mainly hear a lot of moaning…but its slightly funny when the leach puppet starts kissing the guys chest…how would he think that was a real person??

Acting: I honestly expected it to be a lot worse then it was. I’d have to say it was classic early 80s acting, even though it was almost 1990 when it came out.

Overall: It wasn’t how I remembered it, and I probably won’t watch it again. But still the puppets are interesting, even though we didn’t even get to know anything about them..not even their names. I’m sure they’ll do that in the later entries, which I do plan on watching. Maybe I’ll like those better.

Sean Kelly, one of Jack-O’s main targets, tries to find out what the creature wants and how to stop it. The history of the murderous monster, which has almost been forgotten by the locals, is tied to the death of warlock Walter Machen.

My Review: I had this in my Netflix Instant Queue for 9 months before I decided to watch it…I waited so long because I figured it was going to be garbage, but I finally had to watch it because they were going to take it off the next day. I don’t know if it was the quality of the stream, or the quality of the movie, but its horrible and grainy. Worse then even an 80s movie on VHS.

The movie started out with a kid (Sean) and an older man around a campfire. The older man was telling Sean the legend about Jack-O. The man states a rhyme based on Jack-O (which we hear more of throughout the film) which was kinda nifty and catchy. Then we get a little flashback to the wild west which is a little more background that is filled in later. But what’s more confusing is when the “witch” (Vivian) gets invited over for dinner after offering to help with the haunted garage. We see Sean walking around out in the dark. It keeps flashing back and forth between the two scenes. In one its daylight and in the other it’s the dead of night. Sean falls down in the dark scene, and it switches to the light scene where Vivian is helping him up and he states that he had a bad dream. When was he sleeping he just got back from school?! Horribly thought out and put together. But most of the movie is like that.

We are then introduced to three 20 something’s who are hunting for an old cemetery out in the woods. And a little while later introduced to three other people out of the blue. It was sorta like “uh oh did I miss something am I supposed to know these people.” But then we see it’s the babysitter mentioned earlier. Everyone is connected somehow, but overall they are just there for a higher body count.

We go back and forth between Sean’s dreams a time or two and they are just lame, and sorta confusing. They could have been done much better.

As for the killer – not a bad Jack-O costume. It was actually better then I expected. It sort of reminds me of these paper mache pumpkins this one artist does on the following website: STOLLOWEEN. I also wonder if the demon can teleport? Cause he’s ALL over town within minutes of each other.

The ending is hilarious. The little kid is being buried alive, and he “yells” no, so unconvincingly, and just lays there letting himself get buried not putting up a fight.

In the end the movie did have some potential but is poorly written and badly acted.

Gore/FX: There is a scene where someone is killed with a sickle. Its very unrealistic, as the person gets a little wound on their neck – especially considering there is an exact same kill later on, and the person loses their head. A majority of the deaths are slit throats that you barely get to see. Horrible graphics of electrocution and lightening. If you can’t make it look good…don’t do it!

Sexual Content: Some T&A in the shower. The woman (Linnea Quigley) looks to be rubbing herself, not washing herself haha. Another chick naked in the woods.

Acting: Brinkie Stevens has a quick cameo. She’s in a movie that Sean is watching. The kid who plays Sean is by far the worst of the bunch. I’ve seen a lot worse but this kid is just hilariously bad.

Overall: It wasn’t quite as bad as I was expecting. That being said I didn’t really enjoy it. The movie probably would have been better if it was just a killer in a pumpkin costume, and I have no intentions of EVER watching this again.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars

Several stories weave together, including a loner fending off a demented trick-or-treater’s attacks; kids uncovering a freaky secret; a school principal — who moonlights as a serial killer — poisoning his candy; and more.

My Review: It’s funny, If I was to ask a person what film makes them think of Halloween the most it would most likely be the classic John Carpenter film with Michael Myers or the year round Saw films that make their appearance every October. However; for me, it would be this little gem known as Trick ‘r Treat.

There are so many images that someone can think of when it comes to the Halloween season, fall leaves, candy corn, ghosts, goblins, and jack-o-lanterns. Truth be told, those are the most famous icons of the popular holiday and this movie has all of those things. If I had to explain this movie to someone, it would be like this. Trick ‘r Treat is a Horror anthology movie, similar to Creepshow or Tales from the Crypt, the difference however is that characters and themes cross over forward/backward into each individual chapter..so it’s also similar to something Quentin Tarantino would do in his films.

This movie has 6 different stories, two of which are the opening/conclusion respectively and the rest are separate individual tales that are happening on the same Halloween night. Throughout each chapter we also see a little boy with a burlap sack on his head witnessing all of these events as he makes his way all around the town. We aren’t yet aware of what his appearance signifies, but he almost acts as the Cryptkeeper minus the witty puns and heckling. There is definitely a charm to the character and he is perceived to personify everything that Halloween is about. Personally I feel that he is similar to the traditional slasher but instead of sex crazed teens he is attracted to taking out people who are disrespecting Halloween.

Throughout the film we witness each individual tale and they range from the plausible, to the supernatural. I’d really hate to spoil any of the tales because this movie should be watched to get the full effect but I’ll go through each chapter as it’s presented. The opening sets us up with a man and woman heading home from a party, the wife, however, doesn’t want to wait until the morning to be rid of the Halloween decorations as we witness a lurker elsewhere. After that sequence we are introduced to the principal who also makes an appearance in some of the other tales. He’s disappointed at a kid who tried to steal all of the candy and teaches him a lesson. Next we have a haunting ghost story which would be perfect in a movie on it’s own. It involves a group of kids going to a site where a tragic accident took place it involves a school bus that went over the cliff which was filled with unhinged children obsessed with Halloween.

Afterwords, we have a tale that was introduced earlier but is now being fully explored. It involves a group of gorgeous women dressed in sexy fairy tale outfits who are going to a party. Enter a young virginal, Anna Paquin, in a Red Riding Hood costume, she would star in the hit HBO show True Blood that same year involving Vampires, however this tale is about a whole different beast. Last but not least we have the last story which segues nicely into the ending. We meet Kreeg, the Mr. Scrooge of Halloween, he is a haggard old man with a hateful outlook on this particular holiday and anything having to do with it. However, on this dark and spooky Halloween night old Mr. Kreeg is not alone, he has a visitor bent on taking him out. Will he be able to survive this Halloween? or will he succumb to his own personal demons from the past? You’ll have to watch the movie to find out.

I found this movie somewhat hard to review because so many things begin and end in other tales. I didn’t want to give anything away but everyone should definitely get a hold of this movie. It’s a travesty that it wasn’t released in theaters and it sat there on the shelf for years until it was finally released last October. I’ve found this movie to be a new Halloween tradition of mine to experience every year so I hope you like it too and discover the same charm that I experienced.

Gore/FX: There are some fairly graphic scenes but most of them we only see the aftermath. We have a blood puking scene, a werewolf transformation scene involving ripping off their flesh, a dog getting killed (only the yipe is heard) and several other off screen or aftermath shots.

Sexual Content: A porno is featured on a TV that a man is watching in one scene. During the Werewolf transformation montage there are some breast shots here and there.

Acting: I had absolutely no problems with the acting in this movie. Everyone seemed to be spot on and I was pretty impressed by what I saw.

Overall: I was truly amazed by what this movie accomplished and how it was able to make 100% cohesive sense from start to finish. There plenty of great atmosphere and spooky scenes throughout this movie; and I wish that I had seen a movie like this as a child because it would’ve been a childhood favorite of mine. I’d definitely recommend it and watch it again, in particular around the Halloween season.

Dressed as “Satan’s Little Helper” (from his favorite video game), Douglas goes out trick-or-treating and meets a guy dressed as the monstrous boss from the same video game. Staying true to the game, Doug offers to be his assistant, unaware that the masked man is really a serial killer on a Halloween murdering spree.

My Review: The movie sorta started out like a Disney Halloween movie, so I wasn‘t sure what I had gotten myself into. As the movie went on it was obvious that it wasn’t a Disney film (as I already knew), but it continued to have that childish feel to it. It had a great Halloween atmosphere, and was filmed in New England which is where I’m from so it looked a lot like home on Halloween.

What was neat here was that the killer liked to pose his victims around the yards of the houses as Halloween decorations. I thought that was kinda nifty and really would have loved to have seen more of that.

I honestly thought this movie was going to be horrible. I mean the cover drew me in, but I knew it was going to be low budget and worried that it was just going to be nothing but crap. Surprisingly it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. Not great, Not scary, and not a classic, but entertaining at least. And I really liked the last shot in the movie with the door closing.

I couldn’t get over that the kid thought “Satan” was really just pretending and that the other people weren’t actually dying. I don’t get HOW he could have ever thought that.

And what’s with the family not really showing any emotion when the father bites the dust? They just stand there watching! Even after they all do get away nobody seems to really care or shed a tear. Yet later in the basement the sister is crying over someone else. It just seemed wrong to me.

The killer himself didn’t ever really get explained, there is a quick reference to who it could be, but we never know if it is who they mention, and I don’t think there is a mention of motive. Its probably for the better anyhow. He acted kinda funny here and there and didn’t strike me as the killer type, goofing around here and there and at one point even playing with the kids toys with him up in the bedroom.

Without spoiling too much on the ending here. I’m curious how the sister fell for the same thing twice in a row….

Unfortunately, I watched an hour of it, and had to shut it off to do some other things and I totally forgot about the movie until almost a month later. Instead of starting from the beginning (cause really its not that great of a movie) I just picked up from where I left off, watching the last 40 minutes. Sure I was a tad confused but I remembered the gist of it, hopefully enough to write somewhat of a decent review based on my previous notes, but if not I’m sorry.

Gore/FX: I was thoroughly appalled by the cat death, I hate animal deaths in movies, and this one was bad to me. Other then that you don’t get to see a whole hell of a lot. There was a scene where some intestines get wrapped around a chair, but the intestines looks wicked fake.

Sexual Content: The killer sniffing some panties and attempts to get lucky at one point. T & A in a shower. Naked woman with cuts on her chest into a smiley face.

Acting: I was debating on turning it off during the first 10 minutes due to the acting of Dougie, and his mom, she seemed mentally retarded or high on something, and was acting awful. The kid got better as the movie went along, but by far the sister was the best actress of them all.

Overall: The movie was a lot better then I expected, it still wasn’t great by any means, but it was entertaining. However, I can’t say that I’d watch it again. I might if it were on TV. But its nothing I’d be dying to see or run out and purchase.

Pinhead tries his best to manipulate J.P. into breaking him out of his prison — that is, until an astute journalist begins to suspect something.

My Review: One thing that really annoys me about movies like this, is that nobody seems surprised that there are demons. Or that in the case of this movie there is a talking guy in a statue with pins sticking out of his head, or that he’s sucking them inside the stone. If that was me I wouldn’t be acting like it was an every day event!

I still don’t think I care too much for the overall plot of these movies (so far at least) but at least this movie had more of a storyline then the first two films and the deaths were a little more creative. However I don’t get how the cenobites even got locked in this statue or why the news reporter was having these weird dreams about Pinhead before she even really knows about him. He says that he’s a ghost and its not a dream. He goes onto explain it, and it just sorta loses me. The only way I can figure it, is that there are a lot of different dimensions and somehow Pinhead is split into two. Each personality residing in a different dimension.

At this point I’ve really lost interest (as you can probably tell by the shorter review). But at least this movies attempts to have more of a story then the first two..I just didn’t really care about it.

Gore/FX: Its amazing how the body blowing up in the beginning had like no blood and seemed to be made out of stone. There are a lot of creative death scenes in this movie, and a lot of death. Pinhead goes nutso at one point just slaughtering a nightclub worth of people.

Sexual Content: A little bondage sexual activity.

Acting: The first girl that JP brings home, the blond, is horrible. Considering the acting has been pretty good in the series till this point shocks me that they’d get someone so bad. At least she died quick and it was an interesting death. Also Pinhead sounds totally different in this movie. But other then that the acting is fine for the most part.

Overall: I’ve given the series a few tries now and its just still not my type of horror film. I’d still like to get through the series though. I’d say that I enjoyed this movie probably the same mount as the first film. Maybe a little more because it had more of a plot to it then the first.

Still fresh in her fevered memory are her father’s skinned corpse, the evil machinations of her uncle Frank’s reanimated body and the unspeakable perversity of the Cenobites. But the worst is yet to come. From beyond the Outer Darkness, from the darkest regions of the imagination comes Hellbound: Hellraiser II.

My Review: So this time around the daughter from the first movie is locked up in a loony bin because of what happened to her in the first film. She has a couple funny lines, especially “you have got to destroy that mattress!!” just the way it was delivered cracked me up. Anyhow we get a little recap of the end of the first movie right in the beginning. Then a little while later the daughter retells the whole story. Funny in a way because I stated in my review of Hellraiser that it the whole plot of that movie could have been told as flashbacks in a much better film.

A the movie goes on the we learn that the doctor at the hospital has an obsession with finding a way into the hell that can be reached via the weird puzzle box. He hears Kirsty’s claims about the mattress (from the first movie where Julia died) and brings Julia back. Obsessed with finding out what the other side is like, the doctor gets the help of another patient who just so happens to love puzzles. Then everyone dukes it out in hell.

That’s really all there is to the movie. The characters were all blah to me as well. I just didn’t care about them, and the only back-story they really had was that shit had happened to them in the first movie. I guess I just expected these movies to be totally different then what they so far have been…I expected torture rooms and people being tortured and ripped apart left and right and goriness in all its glory, and I haven’t gotten any of that.

I just kept trying to tell myself that this was another dimension, a hell so to speak, and to get used to it being weird, and having weird creatures. But I guess its just not my thing in the end.

Gore/FX: The muscle suit that Julia wears is obviously a suit, it looked better in the first movie, but she was kinda neat looking in the bright white room. Again I couldn’t help but laugh at the demons. The doctor was hilarious later in the film. The special effects look a lot older then 1988. I do like the last shot at the end with the mattress though.

Sexual Content: Ok, it freaked me out a little when the doctor guy started making out with Mummy Julia and feeling her up. I mean he just bandaged her up cause she looked like a meat/muscle suit. Do these two even know each other? Maybe I missed something. Why are they making out all of the sudden, he can’t be overcome with hornyness after seeing someone with no skin! Or is this a new fetish I am unaware of? There is also hints of incest/molestation between Kirsty and her uncle, there were hints of it in the first film as well.

Acting: Why does Kristy always yell at Pinhead, its not loud in there, she’s yelling at him like she has to yell over some other noise in the room, and he’s talking all normal. The acting for the most part was fine, the actors who played the demons stuck me as being funny, but as I stated before, I think that was because of their looks.

Overall: I suppose I like my horror straight forward…and well at least a little spooky. I didn’t care for the overall story, in either movie, and I thought the demons were funny. Overall this really just isn’t my type of film and by far the first was more entertaining to me. I don’t know why I’m gonna do it, but I’m gonna try to finish off the series and review them.

Having lost his earthly body to three demons, the man’s been brought back to life by a drop of blood on the floor. Soon, he’s forcing his former mistress to bring him human sacrifices to complete his body.

My Review: I know I’ve seen this movie before but I didn’t really remember it except for a funky looking dude in an attic. I saw it many many years ago as a teenager and I just didn’t get the fascination with it. Recently the movie channels have been playing the first three so I decided to DVR them and attempt to get into them again…

So going into this one, I didn’t expect much because I knew I didn’t like it the first time, but sometimes it’s a good thing for me to go into movies again years later with that impression because I end up enjoying them. Not so much with this movie however. It was boring. An hour into it and I just really wanted it to end.

I didn’t find the movie scary in the least. Even if I was a kid I’m not sure I’d find it creepy, there wasn’t much to be creeped out about. The beginning of the movie had potential with the torture of Frank and body parts being shown, and his face broken up into pieces, signifying a lot of torture took place. I guess in the end I did expect a tiny bit more from the film then what I got. The whole movie was this lady luring men to her house so that her brother in law who she was having an affair with could…do something to them to regenerate his flesh, because weird and funny looking demons were after him. I laughed at the cenobites!

I’m not sure how the other movies in the series play out. And I suppose each story and each franchise has to start somewhere. But I really felt this story/movie could have been told through flashbacks of a better story to show how it began, there just wasn’t enough here to hold my interest.

Gore/FX: The body reforming looked kinda cheesy, but lot better then I expected for the year it was done in. I’m sure I was sporting a funny face when I first saw some of the demons. Especially the worm creature, and fat guy with sunglasses/goggles. One of the other ones reminded me of Nemesis from Resident Evil, which is probably where they got the inspiration from since this came first. The one end shot was pretty neat, it’s a shame we didn’t get to see the guy ripped apart.

Sexual Content: A couple quick sex scenes and a small shot of Julia’s boob and butt. As a girl who likes mushy stuff, I felt all the stuff with Julia and Frank just seemed ridiculous as the whole movie is based on their affair and how she’d commit murder for him.

Acting: Some of it is pretty silly, but overall its really not that bad. I’ve seen a lot worse. I was curious as to what I had seen Ashley Laurence (Kirsty) in before, so of course I visited her IMDB while I was still watching the movie, and saw that she was in more then one Hellraiser which kinda ruined the ending of this one or me.

Overall: In the end I didn’t find there to be anything special about the movie. It was pretty boring to be honest. I’ll try giving the next couple a shot, see if they get any better. But note to self…don’t watch Hellraiser 1 again!

When he discovers an Axis plot to destroy a key U.S. facility, Danny teams with a group of vicious and deadly puppets to derail the enemy invaders. Set in Los Angeles, this horror film largely eschews computer-generated visual effects in favor of traditional puppets, which heighten the film’s frightening sense of reality.

My Review: I’ll admit that I have a soft spot for the Puppet Master series and a few of the films produced by Charles Band. Who can’t love a film involving a group of puppets killing people in their path by their master? These films produce a certain nostalgia and have a charm which is undeniable, especially as a youngster when I went to the video store on a Friday night and saw this entire series on the shelf in VHS format.

It’s been 10 years since Full Moon distributed their last Puppet Master entry in the series due to recent changes in the film Industry. In late 2009 film trailer for this movie was finally released online and I couldn’t have been happier. It looked very reminiscent of the first three films in the series so that in itself was a relief, because the last film was nothing more than a montage of scenes from all the films combined into a movie for the sake of run time.

As I pressed play waiting for the movie to begin, the brand new Full Moon Features logo lit up with bats flying towards the screen. I’ll admit I was impressed…until the movie started. We begin with a scene with our star, Levi Fiehler as Danny Coogan who you might remember from..eh..well he hasn’t been in anything major yet but he’ll get there..? In this scene he is discussing with his uncle how he wishes he wasn’t a cripple and was off fighting in the war (You’ll get a lot of that from him in this movie) Actually, this opening bit probably has the best acting in the whole movie from the actor portraying Uncle Len..sad..isn’t it? After that little bit of exposition we’re greeted with the entire opening of the first Puppet Master movie. It involves two men dressed in all black hunting down the Puppet Master Andre Toulon responsible for his crimes in Germany (Puppet Master III: Toulon’s Revenge).

The movie ends up slipping after they incorporate the opening from the first movie into this drab I wouldn’t call a film. There are so many incorrect history dates/information given and horrible performances in this movie, Ozu, the Japanese woman in particular is horrid and needs a good acting coach. Every time we are greeted with the puppets they are shot from the waist up and are not controlled by stop-motion animation like in the previous films. They don’t emit any sounds, except for the clanking of gears and other generic sound effects you might have come across on any SyFy feature.

The ending of this film is a cliffhanger and is automatically begging US the audience to witness another horrible piece of trash sequel. Not only did none of the puppets, (except for Blade) get any screen time, but Jester is never seen or heard from again. So I don’t think that I’ll be eagerly anticipating the next film in this, “Franchise” There are better films to waste your time on than a cash in Z Movie of an entertaining B Movie series.

Gore/FX: There is very little gore and what we do see is brief or close-up shots of the victim’s face in pain..

Sexual Content: None at all.

Acting: The main character Danny provides some sub-par acting, but everyone else is abysmal especially the actress who portrayed Ozu. I did however enjoy the Uncle in the very beginning..otherwise everyone is as wooden as the puppets.

Overall: Don’t waste your time on this drab, and instead pick up any of the other sequels in the series. They are far more entertaining so don’t let this film give you the impression that the rest of the sequels are this horrid.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars

But the plot thickens when the otherworldly canine changes form in the middle of the night. As it turns out, the dog is a shape-shifting alien that can attack animals — and unsuspecting humans. This is a remake of the 1950s The Thing.

My Review: People have been recommending this movie to me for the last few years. But I’m not a huge Sci-Fi buff. So I kept skipping it. About 6 months ago I decided to give it a shot. I rented the DVD from Netflix, and my husband and I attempted to watch it. I thought we had made it an hour into the movie and neither one of us had any interest in it, so I shut it off.

Now, 6 months later I’ve decided to give it another shot. It was on some movie channel in HD and I thought perhaps I’d enjoy it even more in HD. So why not. I DVR’d it and watched it over the course of two days. I started it about 3:30AM one night after a night of having some wine coolers and for many main scenes thought what the hell is going on. BUT overall I was enjoying it.

I didn’t get to finish it for another day or too, so my mind was a little foggy on what had taken place, other then remembering a few odd scenes. But really I was just confused about who was who in the movie. I had no idea what actor belonged to what name. I think it made it that much harder for me to enjoy. But I did enjoy it for all its weirdness.

Gore/FX: This movie definitely had some WTF moments. (For those that don’t know, that stands for “What the Fuck”) I think EVERY scene with The Thing was a WTF moment, but especially the “arm” scene. It was at first a total WTF moment, and then it just turned to pure comedy – for me at least…that creature – I just thought it was hilarious. I With that being said, some, if not all of the effects are pretty dated and look kinda bad. I’ve seen worse for an older film, they were still decent. But could be cool using today’s MAKEUP effects. NOT CGI!

Sexual Content: None.

Acting: Great. One of those movies for me where I KNOW I’ve seen a majority of the actors in something else. But can’t place them, or name them other then Kurt Russell obviously.

Overall: Totally not what I was expecting. I liked it. Probably won’t be a favorite of mine cause I’m not big into the Sci-Fi thing, but I would definitely recommend giving it one view. And stick with it for at least an hour.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

She soon discovers that her friends are having similar dreams. When the kids begin to die, Nancy realizes that she must stay awake to survive.

My Review: This for me is THE horror movie of horror movies. It is the one movie that ended up getting me into loving horror in the first place. At the time it was a very groundbreaking and scary concept of something that everyone deals with at one time or or another which is nightmares.

Granted this movie is now over 25 years old and is showing the signs of age and you see the lack of technology, but in my opinion it still holds up fairly well this many years later. While some areas in the effects are dated some are still pretty neat to this day. The rotating room in Tina’s and Glen’s respective deaths is still very effecting today, even without the help of useless cheap horror CGI. And then you have the ones that seem almost laughable like the extended arms scene in the alley with Freddy scratching the wall as he menacingly stalks his way down towards Tina.

The thing that this movie really has going for it is the lighting and the mood that it sets throughout the movie. You have the nightmares which are not lit too much so it doesn’t reveal too much which in my opinion the later sequels should have gone back to. You never get a clear good look at Freddy’s deformed and burned face which I think is much scarier than actually seeing it. Then you have the daytime scenes which are very bright and vibrant, so the whole movie has a very dreamlike look and feel to it.

What really made this movie great and help put it over the top was the score which was done by Charles Bernstein. Some of the score is very 80’s sounding which makes it a little dated in scenes, especially chase scenes, but the main theme and certain other snippets of the soundtrack really help to enhance the whole feel of the movie, and bring it to a whole new level.

Overall I think it is a movie that will be around for many years to come, if nothing else for the very subject that it deals with, which everyone at one time or another has come across. The fear of nightmares is very real, and dealing with dreams of someone trying to kill you is very frightening.

So see this movie…And what every you do….Don’t fall asleep.

Gore/FX: Good gore, especially for the time. Tina’s death is classic and very bloody. Lots and lots of blood for any of the blood hounds out there.

Sexual Content: Nothing really except for a sex scene that you don’t see but you can briefly hear.

Acting: Acting is okay. What can you really expect from an independent film. The stars of the movie are definitely Robert Englund (Freddy) John Saxon (Lt. Thompson) and Ronee Blakley (Marge Thompson).

Overall: Overall the film is a little dated but I think it is still a very effective movie even today.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
