Two girls left to fend for themselves in the forest for five lonely years after the deaths of their parents find refuge in the home of their uncle. But it soon becomes clear that the girls have not arrived alone in this woodsy supernatural chiller.
I had no clue what this movie was about before I requested it for review. I had recalled seeing commercials for it awhile back and I remembered hearing some rumblings about how great it was. I also seem to recall some people telling me that I had to see it, that it was pretty scary. Then I got it in the mail and people kept telling me it was crap. Continue reading
After four teenage friends crash their car, they discover a deserted church nearby and decide to wait there for help. To pass the time, they recount well-known urban legends with twists.
Please please please, do not confuse this movie with the shitty movie called Campfire Stories. That ones a piece of crap, while this one is really good. (I haven’t seen the “Campfire Tales” film with Gunner Hansen so I can’t tell you about that one.) But this one has been a favorite of mine since I first saw it. In fact, I have GOT to get my niece (16yrs old) and nephew (13yrs old) to watch this next week. I’m sure I could spook them silly with it, as I did with their sister... Continue reading
Trying to exorcise her worst memories, Claire returns to the foster home where she witnessed a terrible massacre years ago. But she and her friends soon find they've been locked inside with an evil spirit who wants to perpetrate another mass murder.
Had this one in my Netflix Queue for awhile before I finally watched it last night. I expected crap from this flick but instead got a mixed bag. While the acting and production values were pretty decent, other then a few CGI scenes I didn’t care for, the overall plot was interesting... Continue reading
In this horror flick, the stars of a paranormal-investigation TV show spend the night in a derelict psychiatric hospital, hoping to uncover what's been going bump in the night. As their cameras roll, they find themselves trapped -- and hunted.
Netflix users rated this one pretty decently, so I figured I’d give it a try. The movie starts off with a producer explaining how he got a video in the mail for a reality based ghost hunting show... Continue reading
In a prequel to the events of the first two films, we find out that the demon terrorized Katie and Kristi not only as adults but as children too. Their "step-father" kept a video recording of all the events that took place in their "haunted" house, and it is presented here as a full length movie.
I haven’t been much of a fan of this series. For the most part there is not a lot of action/scare scenes but there is a lot of filler. And usually the action that these movies do have isn’t anything “big” or all that scary... Continue reading
When Elaine Mercado and her first husband bought their home in Brooklyn, New York, in 1982, they had no idea that they and their young daughters were embarking on a thirteen year nightmare. From weird sounds and smells to creepy laughter, balls of light and suffocating dreams, this book is the true story of how one family tried to cope with living in a haunted house.
When it comes to movies, I don’t tend to read reviews before I go into it, unless the movie looks like it could be something stupid. When it comes to books I try to seek out... Continue reading
After killing her abusive cop husband, Mike, Marnie returns to New York to serve the remainder of her manslaughter sentence under house arrest. But Mike's vengeful ghost isn't done taunting her in this gripping supernatural thriller. Meanwhile, Mike's ex-partner keeps close tabs on Marnie, who must wear an ankle bracelet that doesn't allow her to escape -- let alone move past a 100-foot radius.
I had come across this a time or two on Netflix but based on the limited description of it, I didn’t bother with it. Then I came across a review on another horror review blog... Continue reading
When twin sisters are stuck trying to entertain themselves while visiting with their grandfather at a nursing home, they find there is far more to an old Ouija board then just a fun time. A free short story from Amazon.com
This was a very quick read. Maybe 10 minutes or so. It was a decent concept, aimed completely at young adults (which I didn‘t realize when I downloaded it). But the main characters attitudes and swearing got on my nerves. There was no need for it... Continue reading
