The Wicked (2013)

Local stories warn that deep in the woods, a witch with a ravenous hunger feeds on the flesh of the young. In an abandoned house in the woods, she hunts her victims and if you try to enter, you'll never see daylight again.

Shortly after having this sent to me to review I took a quick glace at Amazon’s rating of this movie. It was actually decent at almost 4 stars I believe (IMDB is a 3/10!). I didn’t bother checking out the reviews... Continue reading

Mimesis (2011)

When they accept an invitation to an exclusive party at a remote farm, seven strangers who love scary movies find themselves unwilling participants in a nightmarish role-playing game that pays homage to a classic horror film.

ere’s one that was mailed to me that I’d never heard about before. I had no idea what “Mimesis” even meant until later when its defined within the movie. It basically means to imitate. Which exactly what this movie does... Continue reading

The Wrong Number (Fear Street #5) by R. L. Stine (Book Review)

It begins as an innocent prank, when Deena Martinson and her best friend Jade Smith make sexy phone calls to the boys from school. But Deena's half-brother Chuck catches them in the act and threatens to tell their parents, unless the girls let him in on the fun. Chuck begins making random calls, some even threatening. It's dangerous and exciting. They're even enjoying the publicity, and the uproar they've caused. Until Chuck calls a number on Fear Street.

To his horror, Chuck realizes he has called THE WRONG NUMBER. The jokes are over when murder is on the line. The murderer knows who they are and where they live — and they have nowhere to call for help.

One thing about the Fear Street series is that some of the books are definitely more mature in subject and writing style then others. I read these when I was in Jr. High... Continue reading

Paranormal Activity 4 (2012)

A Nevada family that includes teen daughter Alex and her younger brother, Wyatt, takes in Robbie, a young neighbor, after his mother is rushed to the hospital. When strange things begin to happen, Alex can't help but link the ominous happenings to Robbie's presence.

I've semi-enjoyed the previous entries to this series. That’s not to say that I've loved them or hated them. You can find my reviews for PA2 & PA3 by following those links. I never got around to reviewing the first film though, so you won’t find a review for that one, although I do touch base on it in my PA2 review... Continue reading

Grave’s End – A True Ghost Story by Elaine Mercado (Book Review)

When Elaine Mercado and her first husband bought their home in Brooklyn, New York, in 1982, they had no idea that they and their young daughters were embarking on a thirteen year nightmare. From weird sounds and smells to creepy laughter, balls of light and suffocating dreams, this book is the true story of how one family tried to cope with living in a haunted house.

When it comes to movies, I don’t tend to read reviews before I go into it, unless the movie looks like it could be something stupid. When it comes to books I try to seek out... Continue reading

Urban Gothic by Brian Keene (Book Review)

When their car broke down in a dangerous neighborhood of the inner city, Kerri and her friends thought they would find shelter in the old dark row house. They thought it was abandoned. They thought they would be safe there until morning. They were wrong on all counts. The residents of the row house live in the cellar and rarely come out in the light of day. They're far worse than anything on the streets outside. And they don't like intruders. Before the sun comes up, Kerri and her friends will fight for their very lives... though death is only part of their nightmare.

I’d been coming across Brian Keene novels for awhile on various websites... Continue reading

Broken Rule by Joshua Scribner (Book Review)

This is a very short story about two couples who are stranded when their car breaks down and are being chased by something evil. They find a house that has a sign stating that evil cannot enter so they take refuge in it.

This story is probably no more then 10 real pages, if that. On the kindle it actually ends at 80% and the last 20% is a preview chapter of the authors next book. In Kindle language it is 254 “locations” and it ends on location 203... Continue reading

Trick or Treat by Richie Tankersley Cusick (Book Review)

Martha knew there was something evil about the house she was moving into. It was so cold...and creepy. And it wasn't just the house that was giving her a weird feeling. Martha was sure someone was following her...watching her every move. Then the practical jokes began--the scarecrow with the carving knife in its head, the fire, and the phone calls. It was October, but these were no Halloween tricks. Someone would be coming home this year with more than just a bag of treats. And Martha was the prize.

I requested this book from NetGalley because of the cover, title and because it was around Halloween and since this appeared to be Halloween themed I figured it would be fun. I also assumed it would be somewhat of a “childish” read- sort of like R.L. Stine‘s Fear Street books, but instead it was a little more adult, like Christopher Pike’s books. Continue reading
