Darkly Dreaming Dexter (Dexter #1) by Jeff Lindsay (Book Review)

Meet Dexter Morgan, a polite wolf in sheep's clothing. He's handsome and charming, but something in his past has made him abide by a different set of rules. He's a serial killer whose one golden rule makes him immensely likeable: he only kills bad people. And his job as a blood splatter expert for the Miami police department puts him in the perfect position to identify his victims. But when a series of brutal murders bearing a striking similarity to his own style start turning up, Dexter is caught between being flattered and being frightened -- of himself or some other fiend.

I thought I’d give the “Dexter” book series a read since I’ve enjoyed the Showtime TV series since it first aired. I had heard that the book series was very different then the TV show. Which is ok with me. I enjoy comparing books to the TV/Movie adaptations, and often seek out book adaptations. Continue reading

Friday The 13th by Simon Hawke (Book Review)

It was going to be a fun summer at Camp Crystal. The young counselors were getting ready for it while they joked about the scary rumors attached to the isolated camp. But evil was waiting in the shadows as the sun set. The laughter turned to screams...the easy living to agonized dying. For the light had gone and the wind was howling and it was -- Friday The 13th. This is the novelization to the hit Horror movie Friday The 13th.

These novelizations to the Friday The 13th movies are one of the hardest items to win on Ebay. Unless you are willing to spend $75+ for a good copy... Continue reading

Ouija Be My Friend? by Tarrin P. Lupo (Book Review)

When twin sisters are stuck trying to entertain themselves while visiting with their grandfather at a nursing home, they find there is far more to an old Ouija board then just a fun time. A free short story from Amazon.com

This was a very quick read. Maybe 10 minutes or so. It was a decent concept, aimed completely at young adults (which I didn‘t realize when I downloaded it). But the main characters attitudes and swearing got on my nerves. There was no need for it... Continue reading

A Stir of Echoes by Richard Matheson (Book Review)

Tom Wallace lived an ordinary life, until a chance event awakened psychic abilities he never knew he possessed. Now he's hearing the private thoughts of the people around him-and learning shocking secrets he never wanted to know. But as Tom's existence becomes a waking nightmare, even greater jolts are in store as he becomes the unwilling recipient of a compelling message from beyond the grave! This book inspired the acclaimed 1999 film starring Kevin Bacon.

I’m a sucker for reading books that were eventually made into movies. I like to read them before I see the movie if and when possible. Most of the time I don’t realize there is a book before watching the movie though. That was the case with this book... Continue reading

The Amityville Horror (2005)

[rating:3.5/5] Hapless home buyers George and Kathy Lutz discover their dream home is possessed by evil spirits in this terrifying remake of the 1979 horror classic, based on Jay Anson's popular book -- and a reportedly real-life haunting. As it turns out, the Lutzes home has a bloody history - a former occupant killed his entire family there - so it doesn't take long for terror to come knocking. Continue reading

The Amityville Horror (1979)

[rating:1.5/5] This chiller is based on the reportedly true story of George & Kathy Lutz, who move into their Long Island dream house with their children. But the Lutz's lives turn into a hellish nightmare as the legacy of a murder committed on the premises gradually affects the family. Even the priest they call in, Father Delaney, cannot exorcise the demonic presence from the home. Continue reading

Harper’s Island: The Complete Series (2009)

In this whodunit TV series that aired in 2009, a group of friends visit a secluded island off the coast of Washington for a destination wedding -- but the festivities are cut short by murder, and the guests realize they are trapped with the killer. The murderer claims a new victim in each episode and everyone is a suspect, forcing the survivors to figure out who is behind the sinister plot, and how they can get back to the mainland alive.

I’m a huge fan of the game Clue, and the movie which was based on the board game, so when this series came along, I was very excited. I tried watching it back when it was on TV. But I couldn’t get into the first episode, and ended up missing parts of it... Continue reading
