Cherry Tree Lane (2010)

Christine and Mike are an ordinary couple, living in what could be any house, on any street. It's an average evening at home, until Christine goes to answer a knock at the front door. When she reappears, she has a knife at her throat and a gang of teenagers at her back. What happens next is anything but an average evening on an ordinary street.

I have a whole stack of movies that were sent to me to review, and out of them all I thought this sounded the most appealing. So my husband and I sat down today to watch it while we both weren’t feeling all that well... Continue reading

The Mutilation Machination by Shaun Jeffery (Book Review)

A collection of eight tales that delve into the darker side of human nature. What happens when a sex doll malfunctions? Sit back and listen to an orchestra with a difference. Sometimes self help can work too well. A boy who brings dead things back to life. And what happens when the devil moves in next door? Now sit back and enter a world of nightmare and illusion.

This book contains 8 short stories. Each one felt as though it was written by a completely different author, which I suppose is a good thing because it shows the that the author is capable of more then just one type of story... Continue reading

Chained (2012)

When he was 9 years old, Tim and his mother were abducted by serial killer Bob. While Tim's mother fell victim to Bob, Tim was kept as a chained slave, forced to bury the bodies of the young women Bob drags home and keep scrapbooks of the crimes.

Another movie that I had never heard of before until it arrived on my doorstep. Quite frankly when I read the plot description and discovered who played the serial killer I thought I was going to be in for a bad movie. Continue reading

Witch Water by Edward Lee (Book Review)

Welcome to Haver-Towne. The sedate colonial resort is the perfect place where Stew Fanshawe can get away from it all for a while. But instead of finding tranquility and self-reflection, Stew finds something much more unique: a town that was once steeped in a quagmire of witchcraft, satanic debauchery, and centuries-old occult science. Indeed, Haver-Towne has a most colorful history.

I was asked to give this a read and review it for the site and was happy to do so as I’ve heard many good things about the author. I don’t tend to seek out long drawn out reviews about books before I read them... Continue reading

Megan is Missing (2011)

Employing a mix of storytelling techniques (including webcam footage, video chats and dramatized news reports), this chillingly realistic thriller charts the disappearance of two teens who vanish three weeks apart under mysterious circumstances. This is based on a few true cases meshed together.

I heard about this movie first through reading about it on Netflix. I eventually read a couple reviews on their site stating it was very disturbing and disgusting. So, I figured what the heck I’ll give it a go... Continue reading

Little Demons by Marty Shaw (Book Review)

Welcome to Hale (Pop. 666). After a car heist goes wrong, a narrow escape from the police has Frank driving into the little town of Hale, where he thinks he’s found the answer to his prayers. Unfortunately, this is Hale and the little town has more in common with that other ‘H’ place than Frank realizes. He thinks an old farmer and his sexy daughter are the perfect victims to rob, but his opinion might change before the sun comes up… if he lives that long.

When I started reading this one it had been a month or two since I had read the plot, so I really had no idea what I was getting into other then the title of the book... Continue reading

Urban Gothic by Brian Keene (Book Review)

When their car broke down in a dangerous neighborhood of the inner city, Kerri and her friends thought they would find shelter in the old dark row house. They thought it was abandoned. They thought they would be safe there until morning. They were wrong on all counts. The residents of the row house live in the cellar and rarely come out in the light of day. They're far worse than anything on the streets outside. And they don't like intruders. Before the sun comes up, Kerri and her friends will fight for their very lives... though death is only part of their nightmare.

I’d been coming across Brian Keene novels for awhile on various websites... Continue reading

Chillerama (2011)

The screams -- and laughs -- come fast and furious in this anthology of four tongue-in-cheek horror tales, each from a different writer/director. The baddies range from a gang of gay "werebears" and a monster sperm to Nazi madmen and zombies.

I went into this movie not knowing a thing about it other then Adam Green had something to do with it. I love his films Hatchet & Frozen, and that’s why I requested this to review on BluRay... Continue reading

Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet (2009)

[rating:2/5] Local teens have long commemorated the death of "Mary Hatchet" -- a girl who took an ax and killed her family in the 1970s -- with the aptly named Blood Night. But things never got truly bloody until Mary's ghost decided to make an appearance. Dead bodies are piling up, and Mary seems to be calling the shots. But there are secrets about her past that have yet to be uncovered. Continue reading

Island by Richard Laymon (Book Review)

[rating:3.5/5] When Rupert set out on a cruise with seven other people, he planned to swim a little, get some sun and relax. He certainly didn't plan to get shipwrecked. But after the yacht blew up, that's what happened -- he and his shipmates were stranded on a deserted island. Luckily for them, the island has plenty of fresh water and enough food to last until they get rescued. And luckily for Rupert, most of his fellow castaways are attractive women. But that's where his luck ran out -- because the castaways aren't alone on the island. In the dense jungle beyond the beach there's a maniac on the loose, a killer with a murderous heart, a clever mind and a taste for blood. Continue reading
