Slumber Party by Christopher Pike (Book Review)

It was the perfect weekend...for murder.

Lara thought the ski trip should be a blast. The old gang was getting together again for the first time in years. What could be better than six single girls out for sun and ski and apres ski -- plus a huge house and a warm fire? Even with the memory of what had happened the last time, it looked like the perfect weekend. Until things started to go wrong....

It wasn't much at first -- a snowman that melted when it shouldn't have, a weird phone call. But then somebody went out for "one last run" and didn't come back. And the storm they heard about on the radio was getting worse. Lara thought everyone was up there for a good time. But she was beginning to realize that someone was up there for murder... Weekend by Christopher Pike (Book Review)

The weekend in Mexico sounded like a dream vacation. Four guys, five girls--and a gorgeous ocean-side mansion all to themselves. It should have been perfect.

Except nothing was going the way they'd planned. There was the girl upstairs who was fighting for her life. The phone lines that went dead. And the explosion in the garage that could have killed them all.

But not even that prepared them for what happened next. Because while they were getting some sun, someone else was getting revenge--and the terror wouldn't stop until the weekend was over.

Wow, by the time I sat down and found the time to write this review its now a month or so after I finished reading it. My hubby’s been off of work with medical issues for the last month and I haven’t had a moment.. Continue reading

After a night of music, drinking and getting re-acquainted the friends are shocked to find the cabin's caretaker murdered and the only boat off the island gone. Stranded on the island they become the prey of a mysterious killer who seems bent on revenge for something . . .

The movie starts out with a girl huddled in the woods covered in blood with a knife. Police close in on her and she is taken to be questioned. Right from the get-go we are told everyone else is dead. Geeze, way to ruin it Continue reading

Jest (It Waits No Longer) by David Warren (Book Review)

College student Nicole Carzon is stunned to find herself named heir to her grandfather's castle in England. When she and her friends arrive there, they are overwhelmed with the history and nostalgia pulsating from the 600-year-old Bodlum Castle. However, they soon come to realize, this castle has an ancient occupant that has been lying dormant and patiently waiting for hundreds of years. It waits no longer.

I was contacted by the author to give this one a shot, and quite frankly I had no idea what to expect from this one. The cover and name obviously had something to do with a Jester... Continue reading

Shark Night (2011) A.K.A. Shark Night 3D

A weekend of island beach-house debauchery turns into a hellish nightmare for a group of friends when one of them loses an arm in a vicious shark attack. Worse, the pals soon discover that the waters are infested with dozens of the toothy predators.

I went into this one not knowing anything about it. I recall at one point back when it was in the theater seeing trailers, but I didn’t remember anything about it. Before renting it tonight I asked Facebook friends if they’d seen it and what they thought about it. Most said it was pretty crappy... Continue reading

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998)

Julie is back in college trying to forget about Ben Willis and the murders of her friends. She's found comfort with her new friends, Will and Karla. Karla wins them a trip to the Bahamas, so they pack up and ship out. Ray, Julie's ex-love discovers that Ben Willis is still alive and out for revenge. Before he can tell them they've already left. Soon things begin to happen on the island, and Julie starts wondering if its only her imagination.

I don’t remember my first reaction upon seeing this movie, and by now I’ve seen the movie quite a few times. As far as sequels go, its not a bad movie, its fun and the characters are fun, and there is more gore then the first film by far. But there just feels like something missing... Continue reading

The Ruins (2008)

The film follows four American friends on vacation in Cancún, Mexico. They meet a German tourist and he persuades them to join his hunt for his younger brother, Henrich, last seen headed off with a girl to some ruins she and her archaeological dig group are working on. The four soon regret their impulsive decision after they find the group missing, and the locals won't allow them to leave. Based on the novel by Scott B. Smith.

I read the book shortly before the movie came out to theaters. I got into it not knowing anything about it, and I was really disappointed once I knew what it really was about. This is a spoiler, but its one I think everyone should know...the movie is about intelligent vines that kill people. Yes, killer plants..... Continue reading
